My usual morning song comes on, Francesca Battestelli’s “When the Crazy Kicks In.” After I have my quiet time and time of worship, I love to put on Francesca’s album If We’re Honest. So this song comes on, and Adelaide surprises me when she starts to sing along. I can’t help but smile and sing along with joy filling my heart. I then begin to really think. Adelaide has learned this song from a common recurrence of hearing it play here in our home. I never realized she noticed or was even listening.
She is listening and she is watching. Everything I do, the way I act and respond, the words I say, she’s taking it all in. I want my girls to grow in knowledge of our Lord. I want them to be on fire for him. I can definitely pray for them and this relationship I strive for them to have, but why not show them? I want them to see me on fire for our God and know how happy he makes me. I want them to see me light up in radiance when they hear me speak about him and in turn long for him.
Lisa Jacobson, the owner of Club 31 Women, wrote a blog post titled 24 Ways to Prepare Your Young Girl to Become A Lovely Woman. A link to the post is here: 24WaysToPrepareYourGirl. It gives a wonderful compiled list of qualities we can all strive for our daughters to acquire. (She also has a post for sons 😉24WaysToPrepareYourYoungBoys.) At the end of the post there is a place to print out this list.
Some of the qualities do not come easy for me and will take some humbling of myself to let God work through me. Through a lot of prayer and supplication, I’m determined to lead my children to act as children of God.
